I have been getting many questions about my post processing and usually the description of my technique includes the use of a layer mask...to which many people respond with a confused look and say "What is a layer mask?" Others have stated that they simply "don't get it". In all honesty, I have found very few people that actually understand and use layer masks. Maybe it's because most of the photographers I know are relatively new to the Photoshop world, but regardless, I think it is something that needs to change. I put this tutorial together in the hopes that I would be able to adequately explain the layer mask function. If you have any questions feel free to comment and I will gladly reply. Learning this aspect of Photoshop will make life so much easier, I promise!
